‘The Woods’ 2021

‘The Woods’, currently in the South West Mosaic Artist’s ‘Picking up the Pieces 2021’ exhibition, was inspired by woodland walks and tree bathing, during lockdowns. There is something so intrinsically special about taking a walk in the woods or in a forest, surrounded by trees, flora and fauna. I aimed to emulate that sense of wonder and calm using tesserae handcut from glass, beads, crockery and china, as well as various tiles. ‘The Woods’ was made in my rustic garden studio in Somerset, whilst listening to art, archaeology and history podcasts on my phone. I find that my studio time can be just as valuable as a relaxing walk in the woods.
